Greetings IRD Members,
Our next meeting is almost upon us. Please make plans to attend our Spring 2019 meeting to be held in Fort Wayne, Indiana from May 14thth –May 17th. SDI will be hosting the IRD meeting at the Columbia City, IN. mill.
The Fall 2018 meeting was a great success at Nucor Connecticut. I would like to extend my sincere thanks to Doug Adams and the incredible staff at Nucor for hosting the Fall 2018 IRD meeting! The folks at Nucor did a great job of making our group feel welcome and put on a great tour of their mill. Their willingness to share and answer questions was appreciated by all.
It was great to see everyone that attended in Westbrook. Our membership and participation numbers continue to grow. I want to thank my fellow officers, committee chairs and suppliers for providing the manpower and financial support needed to make these meetings a great success. With your help, we can continue to improve and strengthen our membership.
Once again, our Fall 2018 meeting was a great success thanks to the dedication of our members. I hope that everyone came away from the meeting with some valuable information, either from one of the committee meetings, the technical session or just from conversing with each other.
Technical Sessions: We want to continue filling our technical session with operator, vendor and operator/vendor papers. Many of you are trying new things, equipment, roll materials, tooling, guides, software, monitoring systems, etc.…,. Doing a joint paper with either a vendor or another person from your plant can make that first presentation easier. So please, contact John Ballani, Keith Bacon, Michael Chociej, or Rob Kibler about a paper and share your experiences with us, the positive or negatives. This is how we all learn. Thanks to all those who have presented papers.
Also, I would like to announce that Eirik Pyhtila of Evraz Pueblo has been appointed to the office of Vice-President to fill the remainder of 2018/2019. Eirik has been the Wire Rod Committee Chair for the past 2 years and done a great job. Please give your support and help as Eirik adjusts to his new duties.
Lastly, at our upcoming Spring meeting, we have secured tickets for the Fort Wayne Tin Caps baseball game for Friday night, May 18th. Game time is 7:05pm in the Tuthill 400 Club. Food and drinks (including beer and wine) starting at 6:35pm are included. Please indicate on your registration if you plan to attend.
